Vacuum vessel design for the TJ-II device

The vacuum vessel (VV) is one of the most critical components of the TJ-II stellarator. The VV is designed to provide the maximum reasonable volume inside the toroidal field coils. The hard core coil, which is the other critical component of this machine, remains outside the VV in order to facilitate assembly, accessibility, and maintenance. The design features of the VV are described, together with the stress analysis, the fabrication method, the final assembly and disassembly processes, and internal protection.<
