Plasma pyrolysis of hazardous process and biological hospital waste

The desire to minimise pollution goes hand in hand with the development of new techniques for the efficient treatment of toxic and hazardous wastes. The desire for zero emission processes has led to the testing of plasma systems which have proved to be more efficient than traditional incineration. Here, the author describes how Strathclyde University are interested in the development of small scale, compact stand-alone units intended for use by hospitals, industry and research laboratories for the safe destruction of biological wastes close to their point of production. Details of this system are presented along with other systems under development including those being constructed in France (Electricity de France).<>
