Substituent effect on dielectric properties of substituted cobalt phthalocyanine complexes

The effect of varying frequency, temperature and end groups on the dielectric properties of four substituted monomeric cobalt phthalocyanine complexes was studied over the range 100 Hz to 1 MHz 40 degrees C-160 degrees C. The dielectric constant was shown to increase with increasing temperature and decreasing frequency. Complexes with imido end groups show a low dielectric constant on the order of 10, while complexes with carboxylic end groups show high dielectric constants on the order of 10/sup 3/-10/sup 4/. Thus, nomadic polarization effects in the phthalocyanine macrocycle seem to be significantly modified by different substituents.<
