A note on electrothermal breakdown in insulation

Attention is drawn to a simple equation for the maximum temperature in a technical insulator having a finite temperature-dependent electrical conductivity. It is shown how the electric field in the insulator can be made uniform by a suitable choice of the thermal and electrical conductivities.<
