The application of more effective controls can save a total of Pounds 200,000,000 per year. The article lists requirements in terms of comfort, economy, monitoring and maintenance. Key equipment consists of the boilers, lighting and refrigeration plant; people and business equipment also affect temperature and other conditions. Control systems to meet the needs, with particular regard to temperature, the efficient use of timing, optimisation and compensation, is then discussed.<
