The checker system to provide control over gas concentration in a power transformer oil

Gases are formed in transformer oil as a result of electrical discharge stresses and great thermal power release that causes chemical decomposition of the insulating medium. The gases formed dissolve in oil easily. Each of the main three types of faults corresponds to a specific combination of gases. With arcing discharge all gases associated with the fault are formed, pyrolysis causes the formation of all gases, except acetylene, and corona discharge causes the appearance of large amount of hydrogen. The identification of a developing fault can be performed, the severity of fault can be predicted and the time-schedule of maintenance can be determined according to the concentration of gases. The device developed is intended for the monitoring of the combustible gases' level in a transformer and is installed directly on the transformer tank or the oil cooling system.<>
