Ion transition height distribution deduced from satellite ISS-b

Transition heights deduced from the ISS-b satellite during high solar activity from August 1978 to August 1979 are presented. Contours of average transition height as a function of geographic latitude and longitude in winter and in summer during the same period are shown. It is seen that the major worldwide variation is the change with latitude, and that longitudinal variation is smaller near the equator region.<
