Abstract:

A practical antenna configuration is proposed for use at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies. It consists of a circular cylindrical dielectric resonator fed by a microstrip feedline through a coupling aperture in the ground plane between them. Experimental results for antennas operating between 13 and 16 GHz are presented. The antenna configuration described combines the advantages of aperture coupling and the high-frequency potential of dielectric resonator antennas. Early results show that the aperture-coupled dielectric resonator antenna is suitable for MMIC (monolithic microwave integrated circuit) applications.<>
