Exact study of the implementation of a MESFET on a microstrip antenna

It is shown how the association of the moment method and the theory of loaded scatterers appears to be an efficient mathematical tool for describing active microstrip antennas. The introduction of a MESFET on the feedline of an electromagnetically coupled microstrip dipole is analyzed as a case study. Theoretical results are in good agreement with experiment in regard to input impedance. It is concluded that the approach, which can be applied to any kind of two-port at any location in a radiating structure, provides a promising efficient tool for analyzing future microstrip phased arrays.<
