The Multiscale Nature of Process Dynamics and Model-Predictive Control

Time-scale domain is a more natural setting for the analysis and design of state estimation and control systems, given the multi-scale character of physicochemical processes. In this paper we present a multi-scale approach in modeling processes and employ these models in deriving a model-predictive controller design framework with significant advantages over traditional time-domain or frequency-domain design methods.
