PACS for cardiology-perspective or fiction?

The storage of angiographic imaging data on picture archive and communication systems (PACS) is discussed. The goal is to compact all medically relevant data without any information loss and discard irrelevant or redundant information. Therefore, a concept is proposed that introduces a novel workplace for the cardiologist: the movie cutting report workstation, a place to select the medically relevant images from the total sequence in view of all the other data available. The essential data, compacted by a SPI (Standard Product Interconnect) standardized image sequence compression and stored under SPI management, can fit both technical restrictions and practical useability, provided that viewing stations can offer a unique and easy human interface with a free expandable display option for viewing arbitrary associated data.<
