Interaction of winds, wave and sporadic E layers in the high latitude ionosphere

Observations made in summer with the EISCAT UHF radar have given detailed information on the structure, composition and motions of sporadic E layers of the 'descending' or 'sequential' type, and of the way in which their formation, behaviour and disappearance is controlled by the tidal winds, gravity waves and electric fields in the ambient ionosphere.<
