Memory-a RAM link for high speed

Work on an open standard that defines a ring for linking fast memories and processors is discussed. The interface, called RamLink, will provide high performance even when dynamic RAMs (DRAMs) with internal caching mechanisms are ineffective. In addition to RAM, RamLink will support flash nonvolatile memory, read-only memory, and even memory-mapped disks. Mismatching, collision avoidance, and problems that must be addressed by RamLink are examined. A detailed simulation model for RamLink written in Simula, an object-oriented language, is briefly described.<
