Nanometer axial position sensing in optical tweezers using differential confocal microscopy

We use differential confocal microscopy for axial detection in optical tweezers. The fluctuation of a 3 /spl mu/m bead is about 10 nm at 16 mW. This technique is employed for studying protein elasticity and microrheology.
