Homodyne detection up to 2 THz using continuous wave laser diodes

We present a terahertz photomixing system based on free-running diode lasers and a resonant photoconductive receiver. Extensive modelling work has led to a detailed understanding of photomixer and antenna design, which coupled with the use of optical isolators, has allowed homodyne detection to be achieved at frequencies up to 2 THz.
