Ultrasonic phase-shift oxygen measuring system

The ultrasonic phase shift due to a change in the total weight of molecules in the propagating medium is utilized to measure the partial concentration of oxygen. A new way to compensate the effect of temperature on the speed of sound is developed to give a reliable and robust measurement system. The developed system had a linearity coefficient of 0.99738 around room temperature (16.64 degrees C) and a maximum error percent rate of 2.32%/ degrees C when temperature changes 5.4 degrees C for 20% oxygen gas. The system developed can be used for diverse applications; measurement of O/sub 2/ concentration in medical applications, gas chromatography, or sensing diverse mixtures of binary gas.<
