On the enhancement of Monte Carlo 3G network modelling tools for QoS prediction

The paper aims to reduce the computational times of Monte Carlo 3G radio network planning tools using variance reduction methods. We introduce two different methods of variance reduction: importance sampling (IS) and optimally stratified survey (OSS). Results using each method are presented and we show that computational times can be reduced for a given precision. Recommendations for using each method are given. These results are of utmost importance to facilitate operator's 3G network optimization and design tasks.
