Dispersion-managed solitons in optical fiber systems

The variational principle is employed to study chirped solitons that propagate through dispersion-managed optical fiber systems. The governing equation is reduced to a coupled set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations, from which we obtain the main characteristics of the dispersion managed pulses.
