Synchrony tendency: interactional synchrony and congruence of nonverbal behavior in social interaction

In social interaction, an interactants' nonverbal behaviors may synchronize and become mutually similar. In this study, this phenomenon is called synchrony tendency. Synchrony tendency has been separately studied from various perspectives in many fields. This study describes the validity of synchrony tendency as an indicator of interaction and explains various effects that synchrony tendency can cause, surveying literatures on synchrony tendency. Moreover, through constructing two models and a theory explaining a synchrony tendency contrast, we look down synchrony tendency and investigate its role in interaction. Finally, we also discuss future research directions.
