A very high shock data recorder

The US Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station has developed a miniature, self-contained transient data recorder that can withstand shock levels of at least 100000 g. The single-channel unit has a resolution of 11 b and a maximum sample rate of 1,000,000 samples per second. Approximately 10% of its 128 K word memory is allocated for pretrigger data. The extremely low recorder standby current (<0.1 mA) allows placement weeks before a test event. The unit will retain its memory for a period of six months after acquisition. Data recovery is accomplished via an IBM-compatible PC, and report-quality engineering plots can be produced within minutes after interrogation. The field performance of the device has been exceptional.<
