A vertical inconel furnace for experimental laboratories

Tho design, operation and advantages of a vertical, inconel, atmosphere furnace which has no insulation is to be discussed. Because of its low heat capacity rapid temperature attainment, rapid temperature variation and rapid cooling are possible. Other features of the furnace include dissipation of radiant energy into a water-cooled jacket, preservation of the atmosphere, an elevator for smooth loading, a water-cooled platform for forced cooling of the load, a window in the hot zone for viewing purposes. These features lead to economic furnace operation, fast sol• daring cycles and high quality work. A 12" diam. by 24" high hot zone model, design: for copper-silver eutectic soldering, has been in operation for two years. An 18" diam. by 36" high model of similar design has been operation for the past year.
