A new controller for three-phase boost rectifiers lacking balance in source voltages and impedances

Using the natural reference frame current regulator strategy, a new high performance controller for a three-phase boost rectifier, which is effective for when the source voltages are balanced or unbalanced with or without equal line impedance is presented in this paper. The controller can achieve regulated dc output voltage with either of the following objectives: Unity or controllable input power factor, constant peak and balanced source current, specified or constant input instantaneous active power. All the control variables in the system are AC signals instead of the DC signals needed in the traditional synchronous reference frame based control methods, eliminating the synchronous reference transformations of the variables, and the hardware (phase lock loop) or software required for voltage phase angle measurement. With the aid of the digital signal processor (DSP), the proposed control algorithm has been experimentally implemented and with computer simulation results, the validity of the technique has been established.
