Reentrant Sagnac fiber gyroscope with a recirculating delay line using an erbium-doped fiber amplifier

A fiber-optic reentrant gyroscope based on the principle of Sagnac interferometry incorporating a recirculating delay line is demonstrated. Loss compensation in the delay line is achieved through an erbium-doped fiber amplifier bidirectionally pumped at 1.48 mu m. A theoretical analysis shows the potential device limits for very low rotation rates detection. Nonreciprocal effects induced by the fiber amplifier and Kerr nonlinearities are also discussed.<
