Variational estimation of radar cross section

Examples are given illustrating how variational techniques may be applied to the problem of calculating the RCS of distorted (and therefore realistic) composite scatterers and of resonant-sized objects. The computing power required to predict the RCS using these variational techniques is often less than that required using more conventional techniques, especially when the RCS distribution over a small angular range is required. There is no increase in computing power required for the treatment of distorted rather than ideal scattering objects.<
