Initial rotor angle and parameter estimation scheme for IPM synchronous motor in hybrid electric vehicle at standstill

In this paper, an estimation method of initial angle as well as motor parameters of an interior permanent magnet (IPM) synchronous motor is proposed at standstill without any extra hardware. By using low-pass filtering of the absolute values of the alternating currents and voltages, an initial rotor angle is detected based on voltages and currents without any information of motor parameters. Further, the magnetic polarity of the rotor at its initial position is detected using the effect of saliency. The inductances L/sub d/ and L/sub q/ are also estimated from the estimated rotor angle. Through computer simulation, the effectiveness of the proposed estimation method is verified and experimental results will be presented with proposed estimation scheme.
