Theoretical study of the minor field component power in birefringent and nonbirefringent fibers

Previous studies have suggested that the minor field component power in highly birefringent fibers is dramatically greater (20-30 dB) than that of conventional fibers. A detailed theoretical study of this phenomenon is presented which demonstrates that this is not always the case, and furthermore shows for a highly birefringent bowtie fiber that minimum minor component power and maximum birefringence are achievable simultaneously.<
