The 4*6 network: upgrade of a major 500 kV substation

A study to enhance the reliability of BC Hydro's Ingledow 500 kV substation is described. The study employed truth tables and frequency and duration analysis. The study included double-breaker double-bus and 4*6 arrangements; the 4*6 arrangement was recommended for its cost and reliability advantages. It was found that conversion to a 4*6 (ultimately 6*9) arrangement will not require any special procedures in cuts and ties or in other factors in upgrading, such as protection and control concerns.<
