Ring gear continuous infrared monitoring

In the late 1970s, infrared temperature measuring techniques were developed to improve the dynamic alignment of ring gears. The application of these techniques can be expanded to provide continuous monitoring of ring gear condition as a preventative/predictive maintenance tool. Premature wear and catastrophic gear failure can be avoided by early detection of alignment changes by monitoring changes in temperature across the gearing face width.
