Flywheel learning for multi-cylinder gasoline engine systems

A flywheel learning method for multi-cylinder gasoline engine applications is proposed. The method makes use of teeth signals, obtained through a electromagnetic flywheel sensor. By this method it's possible to correct a flywheel asymmetry for the design of a robust misfire detection algorithm that can satisfy both the European and customer constraints on performance and pollutions. The paper discusses the teeth signals treatment in order to detect and correct the asymmetry in a multi-cylinder configuration. Its main goal is to be independent from the number of cylinder.The experimental results are reported to show the validity of proposed solution.
