A novel sensor material from polyamide-block-poly(ethylene oxide)-grafted carbon black

In this paper, the /spl gamma/-ray radiation grafting of polyamide-block-poly(ethylene oxide), (PA-b-PEO) onto carbon black surface was investigated. The electric resistance of the composite from PA-b-PEO-grafted carbon black drastically increased in organic solvent vapor, which are good solvents of the grafted chain, but not in poor solvent vapors, and returned to the initial resistance when it was transferred to dry air. In addition, the electric resistance also increased in water and hexane containing various contamination (solvent). These results indicated that the composite can be used as a novel sensor materials.
