A review on the development of piezoelectric composites for underwater acoustic transducer applications

For future sonar transducer applications that emphasize the detection of acoustical signals in a hydrostatic mode, new piezoelectric composite materials have been developed. Ceramic-polymer composites having '1-3' and '0-3' connectivity patterns are shown to exhibit much higher sensitivities than conventional PZT ceramics. Glass-ceramic composites are free of aging, and have potential applications in standard transducers.<
