Effect of surface acoustic wave on photoluminescence of silicon nanocrystals

The effect of the electric field generated by the application of surface acoustic waves on the photoluminescence of silicon nanocrystals embedded in SiO/sub 2/ films was studied. It is shown that the application of surface acoustic waves with a field amplitude of about 6 kV/cm resulted in an increase of the intensity of nanocrystal photoluminescence. The results are discussed within the framework of the self-trapped exciton model.
