Efficiency of various photonic bandgap (PBG) structures

The designed photonic bandgap (PBG) structure is essentially periodic perforations on the ground plane to provide effective and flexible control of electromagnetic waves along specific directions. This is achieved by controlling the hole's structure and the distance between the periodic holes on the ground plane. The designed PBG structures exhibit stop-band characteristics, and the optimal position of the 50 /spl Omega/ microstrip line and the correct control of the hole's structure on the ground plane, which bring about the perturbation electromagnetic waves, are determined. In this paper, we compare the performance of the PBG structures with different hole cells on the ground plane. The simulated results, with full wave electromagnetic analysis, are in good agreement with those experimental data.
