Summary form only given, as follows. The deregulation of the US telecommunications industry has resulted in increased use of the electromagnetic spectrum. Although fiber-optics transmission uses segment of this spectrum, the microwave frequency bands from 1.0 to 20.0 GHz have encountered increased usage as additional capacity requirements arise. With this increased usage by industry, the spectrum manager is being asked to show higher capacities and capabilities without incurring greater route development costs while using existing spectrum.
