Faced with what it saw as an oversupply of UK Chartered Engineers a decade ago, the Engineering Council decided to limit degree course accreditation for CEng to courses with tough A-level requirements. Five years on from the introduction of new 'Standards and Routes to Registration', the author explains how the move has left the profession 'in a mess'.
