Effects of Industrial Air Pollutants on Electrical Contact Materials

Experiments have been conducted to show the effects of H
2
S, SO
2
, NO
2
and Cl
2
in simple and complex mixtures on several contact materials. The results have led to the use of two complex mixtures, with and without Cl
2
and containing 200 ppb each of H
2
S, SO
2
and NO
2
for industrial environment simulation. Acceleration factors were estimated to be on the order of 30-40 times at 30°C.
