Abstract:

The variational reaction theory is applied to achieve a variational equation for the study of the single-mode optical fibers with anisotropic core media. Emphasized in this paper are the numerical results for the birefringence of the two principal modes in discussing the effects due to differences in refractive indices, anisotropy parameters, and index profiles.
