Optimization of Energy Efficiency in Reused Lithium-ion Batteries via Cell Regrouping

With increasing interest in second-life applications of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in electric vehicles, effective matching technologies of cells or modules during pack assembly have become critical. Variations in first-life degradation, such as capacity fade and increased internal resistance, must be addressed to ensure reliable performance. Although reused LIBs are often applied for energy storage systems, the screening and regrouping typically overlook charge-discharge energy efficiency. Therefore, this study proposes a screening and regrouping approach that incorporates charge-discharge efficiency. The outcomes of this study showed effectiveness of strategies optimizing screening and regrouping incorporating the charge-discharge energy efficiency.
