A Zero-Voltage-Transition High-G Switched-Coupled-Inductor Boost Converter

This paper presents a new zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) switched-coupled-inductor (SCL) dc-to-dc boost converter operating in discontinuous current mode (DCM) with high conversion ratio i.e. gain (high-G). The SCL boost converter is a high G converter that overcomes the shortcomings of traditional boost converter, but it suffers from hard-switched turn-on of the boost switch. The proposed converter overcomes this shortcoming and reduces switching loss caused by hard-switched turn-on. Analysis and SPICE simulation results of the proposed converter are presented. This converter can be used for Photovoltaic (PV) applications where high conversion ratio and high efficiency are desired.
