Speed Control of BLDC Motor Using Six-Step Commutation

Brushless DC (BLDC) motors are now commonly utilized in electric cars, robots, and home appliances that need to be very efficient, reliable, and easy to regulate. The absence of brushes and the use of electronic commutation contribute to their advantages over traditional DC motors. However, accurate speed control of BLDC motors remains a critical aspect of optimizing performance, enhancing energy efficiency, and reducing system wear. This paper explores methods for speed control of BLDC motors, focusing on, proportional-integral (PI) control. Additionally, the study discusses the impact of using sensor-based and six-step commutation-based methods to achieve stable and responsive speed regulation. Experimental results demonstrate that advanced control strategies, such as combining PI with solar, can enhance the precision and responsiveness of speed. This project concludes that implementing optimal control strategies tailored to the specific application requirements is key to fully leveraging the advantages of BLDC motors
