Development of On-Board Truck Weighing System based on Linear Strain from Truck Structure

This research presents the development of a prototype on-board truck weighing system (OBWS) based on linear strain obtained from the truck structure. The system aims to provide real-time, accurate load monitoring by integrating strain gauges onto the eye beam of a commercial truck. The strain gauges were configured using a full-bridge Wheatstone circuit to evaluate linearity (between weights versus strain) and response sensitivity under varying loads. Experimental tests indicated that the eye beam configuration produced highly linear and precise outputs, with R² values approaching 0.999. A Micro Python-based embedded system using an ESP32 and ADS1115 ADC was implemented for data acquisition, filtering, and real-time display. Regression analysis confirmed a strong correlation between measured and actual loads, with an average error of 3%. The results support the feasibility of the proposed OBWS for load monitoring, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency in commercial vehicle operations.
