IoT-Enabled Railway Safety System using Proactive Hazard Detection

In India, train is the most economical means of commercial travel but at the same time, given that a big chunk of entire population travels by trains a high casualty rate could mean substantial loss. The Department of Defense (DoD) Federal Railroad Administration Track Technology Development Program have provided some new and effective methods for locating a crack in railway. In this paper, the ESP32 microprocessor of the system incorporates many sensors, such as fire alarms, ultrasonic distance meters and also IR detectors for both humans and animals. The dividers are always watched over by the system and are sounded optically in case of detection of an obstacle to immediately alert staff. Moreover, the system uses a GPS technology to relay the exact location of the detected event to anyone and in such way enables them with a prompt and safe response. IoT platforms provide cloud storage of sensor echoes, enabling remote monitoring and analysis. The information ranges from fire detection data, distance measurements to obstacle description. An LCD screen provides onsite staff with real-time status updates to manage and monitor the performance of the system. This method prevents accidents by helping spot potential dangers near train tracks in advance. Integration of the system with the Internet of Things allows timely, that is proactive on its own, addressability as it improves data sharing and location tracking. The proposed solution is fusing proactive monitoring with quick response mechanisms that is able to leverages the characteristics of this type application (Internet of Things (IoT)) for railway security and consequently increase the reliability and efficiency in operations. The possibility of railway crashes, but also serves as a scalable establishment traceable in any other environment giving us a powerful equalizer in the battle to save life.
