Smart Weighing Spoon with Voice Feedback for the Visually Impaired using ESP32

Visually impaired individuals encounter significant difficulties in performing accurate weighing tasks, such as measuring medicines or cooking ingredients, because conventional weighing scales are not designed with accessibility features. This limitation reduces their independence and can compromise health and daily living activities. To address this issue, this paper presents the design and development of a portable, affordable weighing spoon equipped with an HX711 load cell sensor and an ESP32 microcontroller. The device is capable of measuring weights within the range of $\mathbf{0. 5 - 5 0}$ grams and delivers real-time feedback through an integrated text-to-speech system, enabling blind users to obtain accurate and independent measurements without assistance. Experimental evaluation demonstrated a high accuracy level of ±0.02 grams, which is sufficient for precise small-scale applications such as medication dosing. In addition, the system incorporates IoTbased data logging, allowing caregivers to remotely monitor and verify weight measurements. The proposed solution directly enhances accessibility, offering visually impaired individuals greater independence in daily activities and contributing to an improved quality of life.
