Low SLL Two-Way Sum and Difference Patterns Using the Uniform Transmit and Receive Arrays

In this paper, a novel two-way pattern synthesis method for lowering two-way sum and difference patterns' sidelobe level (SLL) is proposed using the symmetric uniform transmit and receive arrays. Firstly, the positions of nulls of the sum and difference receive patterns are derived. Subsequently, the first peak sidelobe positions of the sum and difference receive patterns are approximated by the middle position of two consecutive nulls. It reveals that the first sidelobes of the sum and difference receive patterns can be canceled by the first null and the second null of the uniform transmit pattern. Finally, simulation results are provided to validate the proposed method.
