A Dielectric Reflectarray Inspired by Liquid Crystal-Based Dielectric Constant Tuning

A dielectric reflectarray element that mimics the reorientation of liquid crystal molecules is presented. The proposed element consists of two main components: three equally spaced dielectric blocks and a metal ground plane. By independently adjusting the orientation of each dielectric block, the reflection phase can be effectively controlled. A prototype with 729 elements is designed, demonstrating a $3-\text{dB}$ gain bandwidth of 27 % and a peak aperture efficiency of 34 %. The proposed method shows great potential for reconfigurable dielectric reflectarray design.
