Reconfigurable $\text{VO}_{2}$-Based Terahertz Metasurface Enabling Switchable Airy Beam Generation and OAM Multiplexing

With the rise of 6G communications, the terahertz (THz) band has become a key research focus. Metasurfaces, with their ability to flexibly manipulate electromagnetic wavefronts, show great promise in this domain. Airy beams, known for their non-diffracting and self-healing properties, are ideal for stable transmission in complex environments. Meanwhile, orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexing enhances spectral efficiency by utilizing the angular momentum of light. In this work, we present a reconfigurable THz metasurface based on vanadium dioxide $(\text{VO}_{2})$. By leveraging $\text{VO}_{2}$'s phase transition, the metasurface can switch between generating an Airy beam at 210 GHz and enabling OAM multiplexing or other 3-bit phaseencoded modulation functions at $120 \text{GHz}$. This approach offers a versatile solution for future high-capacity 6G systems.
