Design and Implementation of Smart Bridge Monitoring System Using Sensor Networks for Next Generation

The Internet of Things (IoT) has continually advanced to provide solutions with greater ease, particularly in the realm of bridge health monitoring (BHM). Recently, the integration of cloud computing and the IoT has introduced a new array of smart services and applications. Utilizing both cloud and IoT technologies for bridge surveillance presents innovative methods to address these challenges. This combined approach offers numerous benefits for monitoring bridge sites. It is essential to periodically check the quality and water level of reservoirs and predict inflow. Additionally, real-time monitoring of bridge structures is crucial for assessing health and safety conditions and preventing potential incidents. The system consists of communication devices that connect the cloud-based server to environmental sensors and bridge-monitoring devices. This system can monitor various sensors, such as water level sensors, load sensors, TDS sensors, and servomotors, and relay the collected data to the server and database. This enables the real-time monitoring of bridge conditions via mobile communication devices. Vehicle weights are measured by the system, which then sounds like an alarm and shows a warning on an LCD if they exceed a preset threshold. Consequently, appropriate authorities can send out maintenance personnel to handle any problems.
