Generator Stator Ground Fault Location Method of the CRDM Power Source System in the Nuclear Power Plant

The control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) in the nuclear power plant is the core component to adjust the nuclear reaction rate. Two parallel generators are used in its power source system. After a single-phase ground fault occurs, it is necessary to determine the faulty generator and locate the winding fault point location. Firstly, considering the generators' parallel operating characteristic of the system, a faulty generator selective location method based on low frequency injection is proposed. Then, a winding fault point location method is constructed based on the geometric modeling of the particular Zig-Zag winding potential distribution characteristics. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed method can select the faulty generator, and the fault point location error is within 1%. It is not affected by the fault location, transition resistance and generator operating conditions, which has strong engineering practicability.
