IE5 Class Direct-on-Line Ferrite-Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor

Direct-on-line ferrite assisted synchronous reluctance motors (DOL FaSynRM) can have a high efficiency class. In addition, expensive rare-earth permanent magnets are not used in their production. In fixed-speed drives, FaSynRMs can be a promising alternative to relatively inefficient IE3 class asynchronous motors and synchronous motors with expensive rare-earth magnets. This paper presents a novel design of DOL FaSynRM with an energy efficiency class of IE5 (rated power 0.75 kW, rated speed 1500 rpm). The results of finite element modeling the proposed DOL FaSynRM are presented, including the start-up process and steady-state operation under load.
