Readiness Assessment for Digital Product Passport in the Textile Industry: A firm-level diagnosis using TOE Framework

In the era of sustainability-driven regulations, transparency in product life cycles is very crucial. The Digital Product Passport (DPP), introduced under the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) mandates that products imported comply with and provide comprehensive productrelated information across the supply value chain. Given the triple challenge of ecological, economic and social aspects, the need for sustainable alternatives is particularly high in the textile industry. Therefore, it is important to understand a firm’s capability and readiness to implement DPP. Using the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework, this paper presents empirical findings from a survey of 54 firms in the textile value chain. These findings help to understand current status of data sharing and collection practices, awareness of upcoming traceability initiatives, granularity of information available, use of unique identifiers and willingness to adopt DPP. The recommendations offer targeted interventions to facilitate successful adoption of DPP, contributing to a more circular economy.
